I went to visit a mature friend and we were discussing the importance of reading. Rather i was discussing as usual.... I find it fascinating how people whose roots stems from storytelling and proverbs do not seem to enjoy reading.... So many of us are growing away in the absence of older family members. No grandmas or grandpas to tell stories to our children... I had a sudden urge to pick up an older female writer because i needed to hear the voice of an older woman in my soul... Usually when am down i pick up mama Angelou or Ama Ata Aidoo.... I have no aunties except distant ones so these writers are my surrogate mums and aunties . I know when i need them and I always yield to that need..... It is important to pass on the culture of storytelling to our children and their childrens children and we can only do that by reading with them....
