I went up to my old high school to run some laps today. One kid was a practicing soccer and with him was his younger brother (about 9 years old) dressed in Seahawks gear and just throwing a football up in the air and catching it with noone to play with. At one point he accidentally threw it in my lane and so I stopped, grabbed it and told him to go long as I threw it to him. He was so excited. So every lap or so we started getting into a routine; Id signal for him to throw it my way and hed run off while I tried to do my best impression of Russell Wilson. And thats when I realized what the Seahawks have done for me. Theyve given this city and its community known for its Seattle Freeze something to warm up about. Theyve opened a door for those of us too afraid to be vulnerable to total strangers. To smile or give each other a high five. Its a step in the right direction. Regardless of what happens February 1st, I hope it continues.
