I whistle. I whistle a lot, I could NOT live with Sheldon. I wish that I could play a musical instrument with as much skill, fluidity and instinct for the next note as I do when whistling. I dont need to think about the shapes my mouth makes to get the specific note Im after. Im not talking about producing notes on command, without context. I dont have perfect pitch in that I can whistle along with something or carry a tune on my own but I cant produce specific notes without the context of a tune to put them in. I often find myself whistling along to something with a counter-melody or series of harmonies and I wish I could do that with a piano or other musical instrument with the same lack of thought or effort. When playing an instrument I find my brain gets in the way. Im assuming that its all about muscle memory. My lips know without me having to think about it what shape to make to get the right note. Its instinctive rather than cerebral, I suppose thats just practice.
