I will be 73 years old in a few days. Time steadily erodes our memories unless we actively try to keep them alive and fresh. In this regard I am working to capture some of my past by attempting to recall and document all the movies I have seen over my lifetime. I reckon my earliest experience with films began around the age of five. The facebook Movies section has been a great help in this regard. So far I have 103 films identified and my project has just started. The Internet Movie Data Base site is also very helpful because this place has a vast collection of information and links so many films together based on associations. We tend to select movies because they seem to be like other movies we enjoyed. Matching algorithms like the ones that help us find friends on facebook are powerful. We like people who share common characteristics we value in ourselves or others. Likewise, I will try to document all the TV programs I can recall and plays and musicals I watched. I believe the effort to accomplish these tasks will give me more insight into myself and what I believe because the films, TV shows and plays that I can recall more than likely had an emotional impact on me in some way. This is probably why I can remember them. Many are available on DVD and used copies are available on Amazon so I can purchase and study them closely for clues. Determining exactly when I first saw a film is probably not going to be possible. But, the date of release does does establish an earliest possible date. Eventually I might be able construct a timeline and possible draw see if that timeline tells me anything interesting.
