I will be clear from the beginning, I am NOT a tech wise oldster. But I decided I wanted a tablet kind of to supplement my desktop computer. Something I could carry with and maybe use it while I am in the library at Church, or the public library, where ever. So THE THINGS ARRIVES AND I TRY TO GET IT SET UP AND LEARN HOW IT WORKS. Let me just say they did not even include good instructions to start the unit. But I got it on the charger, and played with it 30 minutes until I stumble on how to start it. 3 hours later I can operate the camera and the calculator, but I can not connect to the internet, I dont know the pass word for my router. So I called my internet provider, they set the router up so they must know, right? Wrong, the guy said he could adjust my tablet to configure to my router for $99.99 I told him no thanks so then he offers a different router for $17.95 more a month. I hated to do it, but I turned him down again, as I told him I bought the service for x amount of data use per month and that was all I was going to pay for. Then I called some friends and picked their minds but of course they never knew the password so all they could offer was some of their experiences. Then I googled Belkin support, because it was a belkin router. I chose the site listed at the top of the page and called them. The tech told me he had to have control of my computer by remote to find the info I wanted. Now this did not make sense to me as my computer is hard wired and does not connect via the wireless router, but hey, these guys know everything, right? OH BOY DO THEY KNOW EVERYTHING. After telling me that I was touching my keyboard and making his control fail I assured him I was at least a foot from the desk, then he told me there were 13 different entities trying to access my computer, but he could stop them... for $199.99. I thanked him for his time and somehow resisted all his sales talk and got off the phone. He closed the chat box and I went to the kitchen and explained to my wife, I did not know what we were going to do. I go back to my computer, fire it up and find the tech left it on SAFE MODE. So from there you cannot open your internet browser or even play solitaire. :) This morning I get on the wifes laptop and look up Belkin support, because when I called them back yesterday they denied they had left it in SAFE MODE, But he could fix it over the phone for $19.95. I am not going to repeat what I told him. But I called a different Belkin support this morning and he asked me the phone number of the site I had called yesterday. After a brief pause he came back on the line and told me I had been hacked, he had that number on a list and explained to me the exact way it played out yesterday. While he could fix my safe start problem for $40.00, he could not get my stolen info back. I then called my credit card company and my bank and stopped all incoming billings from being honored, changed my passwords and security settings. I called the internet provider and explained to them, the auto pay they would send in next week would not be honored because all my accounts were frozen thanks to their unwillingness to share some information with me. They gave me a number for Belkin support, and after 40 minutes on the phone my Tablet now is connected to the net and my desk top is out of start up mode and the cost as a 1st time caller was $0. What can I say, double check who your doing business with.
