I will be honest. Yes it stings, hurts a little, I cant lie. Yet its not personal. I havent learned how not to take it personal though. That they dont feel you are worthy to invest in. We learned last week, Sony said Denzel Washington should not play the lead in the Equalizer because he is black & the film will not make money overseas. (He proved them wrong- it made more overseas than Domestic.) Chris Rock said it last week in the Hollywood reporter- they just dont put black women as the lead in films. They are not even considered. This week, we hear back from all the distributors saying there is no audience for this film & it was too much of a risk to invest in. The film is about me, Chrystee P. An African American woman. And its faith based. Double whammy. Chrystee Pharris has no audience & not worthy to be invested in? Charles Malik Whitfield, Ted Lange, Irma P. Hall, and Tracey Ross- does not have an audience? I dont believe that. I just dont. And I am not going to let them get me down. I am too good & I have a lot to share with the world. I put everything into my performance with Steps of Faith. And truthfully, I was scared to play the lead in the film. Could I carry the movie? I fought through the fear & I excepted the role. And last month, the film won the Spirit Award. It turned out to be an excellent independent film. Everyone was amazing in the film. What a great cast. So what do I need. Please share this post first & foremost. Spread the word. This film is a great story for every generation. And it is not a black film. Its a human story. If you ever had a situation where you wanted to give up but you didnt know how to fight through? This is a story to watch. If you have a church- get the link to the them. And if you feel in your heart to invest in the movie, purchase the film. They are only $10 from now to January 31, 2015. I want to prove them wrong and stand by my own words of advice. I tell my business of acting students to create their own destiny. Well, now its time to live by it. Im creating my own destiny.
