I will be participating in the "Out of Darkness" walkthon for suicide prevention on October 20, 2013. I will be walking as part of the "PFC Joseph Dwyer Veterans Peer-to-Peer Program of Putnam County" team. I want to bring awareness to the high rate of suicide by Veterans. Joseph Dwyer (pictured below) committed suicide five years after this iconic photo was taken. He had trouble dealing with both the demons of war and the notoriety he experienced from recognition by the public from the photo. Twenty-two Veterans commit suicide daily. One a day is too many, let alone twenty-two. I will be walking in memory of a 28 year old Coast Guard Veteran from Putnam County who served two deployments to the Persian Gulf and who committed suicide in February 2012. I would appreciate your support.
