I will gladly make the sacrifice of fear for peace and happiness. But how do I go about doing it? How do I let go when fear and worry is so deeply entrenched in my mind? I know that the more I focus on my fears, the more I project them into my world and the more likely I am to repeatedly keep experiencing fearful situations. So how do I let go of all my fear, anxiety and doubt – especially when my mind is addicted to worry? How do I sacrifice fear for a better way of life? You can sacrifice your old beliefs that involve suffering, lack, fear, loneliness and pain, and open to accepting your true reality. First you make a choice to do it. Then your part is to invite a healing, to invite and allow your deepest highest wisdom to do the healing for you. Dont make the mistake of trying to do it on your own will. This is the biggest mistake made in recovery: we believe we have the power to change/heal our lives. This is an illusion created by the ego. If you had the power to change your life; the power to create peace, happiness, love, financial security and freedom, you would have done it by now! We invite our Higher Power to heal on our behalf. Whilst doing this, we must create a space for Higher Power to enter our life/mind. And we do this by using the Steps on our fears, to create a clearing. Step 1: First we acknowledge and accept that we, on our own will, are powerless over the destruction caused by our old beliefs, and we accept that our doubt, fears, worry and anxiety is making our lives unmanageable. Step 2: We develop the willingness to sacrifice our old beliefs for something better, and we cultivate willingness to allow our greater power to heal our minds, heal our thoughts, change our lives. Step 3: We surrender our fear to our Higher Power, we invite this power to heal us, to create a better life for us: prayer and meditation on a daily basis. Step 4: To create a space for our Higher Power to work in our lives, we undertake Step 4. We make an inventory of our fears (similar to an anger and resentment inventory). Heres an example: Im Afraid of: Fill in the blank Why? Fill in the blank Character Traits: List defects of character that arise over this fear Belief/Motivation: Why we feel we have to fear the situation Example: Self Im afraid of: Letting others get to know me Why: They might not like me Character Traits: Self-hatred, avoidance, sarcastic, perfectionism, being phony, manipulating, people-pleasing, controlling. Belief/Motivation: I fear Im not likeable; I fear Im not as good as everyone else; I fear rejection. Another Example: Relationship Im afraid of: My partner Why: He yells at me Character Traits: Lack of confidence, fragility, distrust, minimizing, manipulating, controlling. Belief/Motivation: I fear I have to be perfect or he wont love me; I fear I will have to live with this forever; I fear Ill never be loved. Another Example: Finances Im afraid of: Not having enough money Why? Wont be able to pay the bills, have enough food, buy a home. Character Traits: Angry, frustrated, dissatisfaction, envy, jealousy (of others), self-pity, despair, helplessness, excessiveness, controlling Belief/Motivation: I fear that my life will always be a struggle, I fear I will never create financial security and freedom. The more fears we get down on paper the more awareness we create and the more space we clear for our Higher Power to work. Step 5: We share our fears with our Higher Power (pray) and with another person we trust to listen without judgement. Step 6 and Step 7: On a daily basis we invited our Higher Power to remove our fears. We ask to be shown how to create a better, more peaceful way of life, we pray for healing. Only our highest power and wisdom can create miracles for us.
