I will never believe that the prize for committing an illegal act - TopicsExpress

I will never believe that the prize for committing an illegal act (sneaking into the country) should be a track to residency or citizenship, especially when legal residents and citizens have been waiting upwards of 20 years to bring family members here legally. Real reform takes care of the citizens and then legal residents first. Real reform shores up the borders. Real reform expedites the procedure for people who have followed the law. Real reform does not kowtow to a large group of people who break the law and then decide that they are somehow owed or that they have rights. How loud that group becomes is irrelevant. Real reform does not support illegal activity. That youre a nice person is irrelevant. That circumstances are difficult in your home country is irrelevant. That you came here illegally and made babies who can claim citizenship is irrelevant. That you have obeyed the law since you came here is irrelevant. If you can prove it would be dangerous for you to be deported, fine .Unless you can demonstrate a case for asylum though, go home. Follow the procedures that are in place for coming here. Difficult circumstances in ones home country do not equate to a case for asylum. You may have all of the right or good reasons for breaking into my house, but that doesnt excuse you from the consequences for your actions. You still have broken the law. Why you expect a free pass is beyond me. For those of you who came here and made babies, your argument that you should be allowed to stay because your children are citizens by birth and your family should stay intact just doesnt wash. No, I dont think you should get special treatment. We have prisons full of people who made kids. Those kids are on the outside missing their parents. They dont get to apply for the release of their parents just because they (the kids) arent in prison. That the incarcerated parents are model citizens is irrelevant. That the incarcerated parents had a good or right reason for committing the crime is irrelevant. Yes, my heart is sad for these people. I didnt make their choices though. Any reform that allows people who came here illegally to have a fast track or any track to residency or citizenship without going back to their home country with the admonition to follow the laws here is wrong. Any reform that does not first help our citizens and residents who have followed the law and are still waiting is political posturing at best and pandering at worst. I sincerely hope President Obama doesnt go there. ~ Anonymous Poster
