= > I will play a lead role in wining ODI series for Pakistan, says Boom Boom Afridi KARACHI:“I would do my level best not to disappoint my fans and will play a leading role to help team win both ODI and T20 series,”said flamboyant al-rounder and former Pakistan skipper Shahid Khan Afridi, who left for UAE Sunday to join Pakistan team for the One Day and T20 series against South Africa starting from 30th of this month. “I am hungry and looking forward to perform for my team and country, as I am fully aware about the responsibilities as a senior player and fans’huge expectations. I would do my level best not to disappoint my fans and will play a leading role to help team win both ODI and T20 series,”Afridi said. While talking to a Pakistan based daily newspaper before his departure from Jinnah International Airport, Afridi looked very confident about Pakistans chances in shorter versions of the game despite poor end to the Test series. Afridi said although Pakistan batting flopped in the second Test and the bowlers also failed in providing timely breakthroughs but with few changes in the Pakistan would turn the tables on the Proteas. He said Pakistan had a very wonderful and balanced squad best suited to shorter versions of the game. “It is quite unjust to put entire blame of loss on batsmen and bowlers. People must understand a simple fact that it is the Pakistan team, which is playing fewer Tests as compared to other countries. That is why our players find it difficult to cope with the longer version of the game. But situation would improve with the amount of matches being offered to Pakistan,”the 33-year-old al-rounder said. Afridi said he had gone through excessive training and would shut his critics’mouths with match-winning performances.
