I will try this 10 things you didnt know about me thing.... 1) As early as 1st grade, I seriously thought I would play for the Royals one day. 2) I wasnt superstitious, but I always threw three (3) rocks off the infield before every inning. 3) The only punch I have ever thrown -- other than screwing around with boxing gloves -- resulted in a broken hand and a good laugh from Man of Steel, Darrel Sample. 4) I accidentally threw a 50-gallon trash can onto the field after popping up to the pitcher with the bases loaded at state softball in KC one year. Yes, Mens slowpitch IS that serious. 5) I started wrestling in 3rd grade. My first tournament ever was at 54-pounds and my bracket included Brian Leopold and Lance Shepard. 6) I weighed a whopping 93 pounds as a freshman in high school. From 3rd grade on through high school, I got pinned one time -- by Weston Wayne Harding in the state semi-finals at 98 pounds as a freshman. 7) I regularly wore cowboy boots until one fateful night in February 1986 in Oberlin when I was tied by Jude Wilson. No overtime in those days. It ended in a 2-2 tie. I havent worn cowboy boots since. Nor have I worn the grey 501 button fly 28x32 jeans that I wore that night (for multiple reasons). As previously mentioned, Im not superstitious. 8) Before all the new weight loss rules that are in place now, I cut from 130# to 112# my senior year. I was so skinny, my coccyx (look it up) stuck out of my singlet. 9) One of my all-time favorite sports highlights was when my brother made a hook shot from the top of the key in 8th grade, and then was promptly benched by Cherri L Sager Harms dad, Coach Warren Sager. Coach Sager was a good coach. He was even able to teach ME the fundamentals of basketball. This all paid off in 2009 when I ended the Holiday Classic with a walk-off 3-pointer as I yelled MARIO at the top of my lungs. 10) I once shot 130 in a high school golf tournament. 80-50. Hopefully they dont remember it, but my foursome included John Steiger, Scott Lovenstein, and Scott Gawith. I took a 17 on one hole (#9 at Oakley back in the days when there was actually water to shank a ball into). I took dead last in the entire tournament. I didnt go out for golf the next year. 11) I cant remember what I did last night because all this meaningless trivia takes up too much space in my mind. 12) I could go all night, but its almost time for GSP vs Johnny Hendricks.
