I wish I could do martial arts, and/or combat sports...if it - TopicsExpress

I wish I could do martial arts, and/or combat sports...if it werent for my disability Does that comment speak to you, and your situation? I have good news if it does. That statement, is a misunderstanding. Truth is, martial arts and combat sports can be learned by anyone. The onus is not on you, but the instructor, to be able to make the material usable. This is true for students with, or without, disabilities. There is always a way. With or without a disability, it is the responsibility of the student to try and put their best effort forward. If that requirement is met, by any student, then the program instructor can most certainly make it work. Sadly, in todays society, we live a life where we tend to fail to put the individual first, and the disability second. This is true for those offering services, as they feel that the service may not be for that person due to their disability.... Not only is that untrue, its discrimination. And also, a person with a disability can at times think they can not do a certain activity, because of the disability itself. Perhaps, in todays society, those who have a disability, and/or parents of those with disabilities, are afraid to step up and ask, thinking before hand, that inclusion is not an option. I can not speak for other activities, but can speak for the one I provide, Keiko-Ryu Bujutsu. We are a mix of traditional martial arts, as well as combat sports. We have the expertise to cater to anybody, and we have the environment to welcome everybody. All you need is the interest, and desire, to benefit from the physical, mental, and emotional power that comes from studying the martial arts. These activities, are to STRENGTHEN, the individual. Thus, they are not reserved for the already-strong only. If you are someone that believes that your disability will not allow you to take part in our program, please get in touch. I understand where that misunderstanding comes from. Its my job to show you differently. You ARE able!! Keiko-Ryu Bujutsu and Combat Sports Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:15-8:15 North Tetagouche Recreation Center.
