I wish I could get into Wheelchair Curling (gold medal game was just being recapped on CBC)... but not only is there no sweeping, theres (almost) NO CURLING!! The poles that they use to push (rather than throw) the rocks dont let them wrist-twist them at the end to get the proper spin that enables rocks to curl behind guards, and they clearly make everyone less accurate in general... nothings wrong with their arms&hands!! Cant they build a sheet --specifically for folks in wheelchairs -- where the players can sit below the ice with the rocks at hip-level so they can use their perfectly functional upper limbs to allow their hand-eye coordination to be more of a factor?? Ideally a teammate would push them along to more exactly mimic the normal sliding-out-of-the-hack, but that might be asking too much... But figuring out how to let them use their hands so they dont miss so frequently (and embarrassingly, for national-champion teams!) is NOT too much to ask!! ...especially if youre asking major networks and their audiences to give it the airtime & attention!!
