I wish I didnt have to be ashamed of my families religion but truly men like Pastor Logan Robertson at the Westcity Bible Baptish Church make me sick. He speaks out but many other churches of New Zealand are no better as they perpetuate the same despicable message of hate with their silence. With consideration to my familys pride Ive never before posted publicly about my contempt for the state of NZ churches. It is no secret that LGBTQI youth face constant hate, fear and debasement due to ignorance and years of bigoted indoctrination. We are 8 times more likely to attempt suicide and 6 times more likely to face depression as we struggle with constant rejection from our families and friends, the people we have loved and the pastors we have looked up to. Ill end this post with a quote from one of my favorite movies attempting to address bigotry seen in this article Prayers for Bobby- There are children, (like Bobby), sitting in your congregations. Unknown to you they will be listening as you echo amen - and that will soon silence their prayers. Their prayers to God for understanding, and acceptance, and for your love. But your hatred and fear and ignorance of the word gay, will silence those prayers. So, before you echo amen in your home and place of worship. Think. Think and remember a child is listening.
