NATURE AND OTHER POEMS By Diane Fenton SPRINGTIME COLORS Once there was a green grassy hill And a duck with a sharp orange bill Eating brown and black bugs Small plants and slugs Staying far away from the red hot grill. SPRINGTIME SENSES This spring morning has just begun Birds chirp and bathe in the sun Spring brings freshness to everyone Look, hear, smell, and touch for fun. NEW SEASON 7 SYLLABLES PER LINE Afresh new season is here Trees grow and insects are near The sun shines bright in the sky As kites and balloons fly high Animals and birds make sound More spring treasures can be found. FALLING LEAVES In the fall leaves will change Color and shape are rearranged They turn from green to brown They dry and fall to the ground Then theyre gloomy and deranged. BIRDS In the fresh morning sky Geese and birds fly. Some birds perch in the tree Singing cheerfully. I throw nuts, and seeds on the ground Now there is a flapping wing sound. I sit quietly enjoying my coffee As Gods flying creation quickly eats around me. BIRDS AND SUNSHINE I’m laying quietly under the tree Please come and lay down by me I am listening to the birds Let’s not speak any words I am filled with delight The sun is shining bright I love the whispering sound As leaves blow on the ground I feel the warm gentle wind My love, my friend. NATURE Haiku Trees are so special Providing homes for many Birds and animals. Trees are for us all Giving us beauty and fruit Compost, shade and peace. Flowers on the earth Provide nectar for birds and Pollen for the bees. We need dirt and mud Worms and insects must live there Plants and grass will grow. Take time to enjoy Fresh air, sunshine, falling rain And all outdoor sound. MERRY GO ROUND Music fills the air Excited we line up Run to the merry go round Real happy having a ticket Yippyio yippyia yo da lay deo Go horsey go Oh please don’t stop Relishing each moment Over and over Up we go as the horse goes forward Now Down we go as the horse continues merrily around. LIFE BUFFET Theres so much going on Time is going too fast There are so many choices New and unusual voices What, when, how, who and where Just make a selection From the playground of life Or from the cafeteria With the worlds biggest buffet. FAIRY TALE DREAM Im living fantasies and fairy tale stories That have been captured by my mind. I wish upon stars, ride on white horses Depend on help from animals And dance at the royal ball. When sewing I was stuck by the witchs needle Or was it the witchs bad apple I ate That put me to sleep for years? Now, Im sleeping and dreaming Waiting only for the perfect love. Will it be a prince that finds my shoe Or a knight in shining armour that rescues me? Will it be a prince that climbs up my long hair And takes me down from the tower Or a frog I kiss, that turns into a prince? Will it be a prince that takes my hand And leads me from my homeland to his Or a prince that wakes me from my deepest sleep with a kiss? Will I live happily ever after? Only time will tell if fairy tale dreams come true. TEENAGE WAYS Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I giggle, laugh and feel shy I love asking the question “Why?” Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I get embarrassed easily And blush when you get close to me. Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I like it when you hold my hand As we sit, walk or stand. Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I like to feel your soft touch And like touching you as much. Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I like feeling the romance When you pull me close to dance. Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I like it when we talk together About dreams, ideas and weather. Some teenage ways won’t depart They’re in my body, soul and heart I have a dream of finding my soul mate But oh, it’s so confusing to date. There are young, old, Quiet and bold. Disabled, religious, Serious and humorous. Active, healthy, Working and wealthy. Short, tall, Fat and small. Black, brown, white, Some that argue and fight. Many wild and free, And someone I hope to understand me. TODAYS RAIN Today it might rain The cool wind will blow Rain will water the trees And also clean the air Desert rain is fun It will wet our hair Listen, feel, run about Laugh and make out. A TRUE RAIN STORY I thought I heard rain, so I went outside. There was leaves blowing on the ground and in the trees. I sat on the swing, and soon the rain was all around me. I stood up and walked a few steps from the swing to feel the dropping rain. The feeling of the falling raindrops was nice for a few minutes. Then I sat back down to finish my coffee. I think the wind blew a baby bird from the tree, because I kept hearing a tweet tweet. I wondered if the mama bird would get the baby bird. I guess she did, because the tweet tweet sound stopped. Oh! I have this fantasy that keeps coming into my head everytime it rains. It would feel a little crazy and I would feel embarrased, but I really have to do it one day. I want to put some loud waltz music on outside when it is raining and dance the waltz. Maybe I could pretend Im in a movie and forget feeling embarrassed. I am very serious, I want the free, feeling of dancing in the rain. ARE YOU A PIZZA? Human beings and pizza resemble each other. The pizza crust is like the bones of the human body. The crust and the bones are both supportive foundations, defining shape, and strength. The pizza sauce is like the blood of the human body. The sauce and the blood are both necessary fluids. They are full of vitamins, minerals and cellular structure. The cheese is like the skin of the human body. The cheese and the skin are both very important layers. They both protect and hold everything together. The toppings enhance looks, and quality. Pepperoni, sausage, anchovies, onions, olives, mushrooms and peppers are like personality traits such as sense of humor, intelligence, empathy, courage, honesty, helpfulness, and laughter. Every human being and pizza is unique and special. Every pizza and human being has toppings or traitsthat can be added or taken away. Best of all, pizzas and human beings can both be loved and enjoyed.
