I wish that people would not judge me based off of the way I look. For the record, I am not ugly but I wish I was born ugly. Instead, I’m a blond haired, blue-eyed girl with fair skin. My name is Melissa. My parents encouraged me to be anything I wanted to be. When I wanted to be an engineer/biochemist, my parents still supported me. In fact, my parents have unusual occupations with my father being a pastry chef and my mother teaches robotics. None of my classmates supported my occupation. In school, I was voted “Most Beautiful Girl” and “Most Likely to Become a Model.” I have heard dumb blond jokes thrown in my face by everyone. Guys would frequently ask me out on dates and whenever I refuse, they would joke about it with their friends. When I graduated from high school, I had a 4.0 with advance placement math classes and science classes to boot. I was going to a prestigious tech school to become an engineer/biochemist with many scholarships. Many of my peers still assumed that I was going to be a model or an actress and they thought I was dumb even though I graduated at the top of the class. Well to those of you who doubted me, you’re the ones who should be ashamed of yourselves. I completed my masters in engineering and a masters in biochemistry. I have won multiple, international competitions for both of my degrees. My thesis for my biochemistry paper was so amazing that my college professor used in a conference, using my name as a reference. One of those people attending the conference hired me and none of my coworkers judged me on my looks in any of my internships or jobs. They loved my work and constantly praised me. I cannot wait to go to the ten year reunion. Most likely, people will assume that I have become a successful model or actress. I will reply, “Neither.” Then I will tell them about my successful careers using very technical terms. If they still don’t believe me, that’s their problem.
