I wish to give a brief profile of an NGO to you. The Cancer Research and Relief Trust (CRRT) is a charitable organization that is dedicated to provide cancer treatment to the needy. CRRT, comprises of a team of Surgical, Medical and Radiation Oncologists - Dr C S Mani, Dr S Ayyappan, Dr Vikas Mahajan, Dr. S. G. Ramanan and Dr. M. Janarthinakani. All the doctors who are the Founder Trustees, held various Faculty positions at the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, where they worked for more than a decade, and they continue to serve cancer patients with commitment through the Trust.The main objective of the trust which is funded primarily by philanthropists, is to provide medical attention to cancer patients at large.The Trust has supported more than 400 patients since its inception in 2008. Our Trust functions mainly at Kumaran Hospital, Poonamallee High Road, Chennai.The trust is also involved in various activities for the creation of public awareness in the fight against cancer through organizing programs, workshops and the like. The doctors of the Trust also conduct regular CMEs (Continuing Medical Education) for medical professional and paramedical staff. Rehabilitation workshops are also regularly conducted to help patients to integrate into the society post-treatment.Early detection of cancer is very important in the overall management of cancer. Towards this endeavor CRRT conducts screening camps every year. The Trust is actively involved in the research towards cure for cancer. CRRT is collaborating with The Department of Biotechnology, I.I.T. (M) for Research in cancer biology.The Trust along with I.I.T. has put up a project proposal to the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, to set up a bio repository where tissue samples can be stored and retrieved for various research purposes. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by CRRT with IIT MadrasThus the goal of this organization is to reach out to needy cancer patients, improve the overall quality of life for the patients and strive to understand the causes of the disease in order to prevent it.It is a known fact that cancer treatment is very expensive.
