I wish to take a few moments to remember and celebrate the life of my friend Howie Flomburg. I met Howie in a chat room in 1999, and we hit it off right away. We discussed all the dont-touch subjects such as politics and religion. We enjoyed discussing both the similarities and the differences in Christianity and Judaism, and I like to think we both learned a lot from each other. Howie had a tough childhood in Brooklyn, and I think it formed what he was...he was a gentle spirit who rolled with the punches...admirable qualities when one considers how he could have allowed it to turn out differently. He was an Air Force vet and a college professor with a mind like a steel trap .We made each other laugh, no less so than when we were in disagreement.Something that touched my heart was when Howie invited me to spend Passover dinner with his family. As a Christian, I could think of no higher honor to be bestowed upon me, and I will always think of him warmly for that, amongst other things. Howie had some tough times in his last few years, being a dialysis patient, but he was an advocate for those in a similar state, and I hope to help continue his fight. I will sorely miss my friend, and I pray for the peace and comfort of his family. As we ironically used to say to each other in closing our discussions... Lchiam...to life ! Rest in peace, my friend. I will think of you often.
