I woke up early to finish what I am supposed to do. But I have to - TopicsExpress

I woke up early to finish what I am supposed to do. But I have to cook and clean my immediate surroundings first. As I swept the entrance of our quarters, I saw a pile of garbage at the foot of the tree that is the garbage collection point for BQ 2 and 3. I have been cleaning the surroundings of this tree since it was agreed that the garbage generated by the two quarters will be collected from this point and I am very familiar with the type of garbage my neighbors will produce. A sack, and several large plastic bags filled with assorted garbage were dumped at the foot of the tree. These are not my neighbors refuse! I peeped Into the sack and plastic bags and saw T-shirts, shoes, slippers, and other recyclables, mixed with food and other kitchen refuse. TOO TEMPTING FOR HUMAN SCAVENGERS and dogs!!! If I would let it stand there am sure that the guy who collects recyclables would get the sack, the usable plastic bags and all other recyclables leaving all other unusable garbage scattered about the foot of the tree. With the smell of food and other decaying kitchen refuse, the dogs will scatter the garbage further. The garbage collectors would only collect those garbage placed inside containers. To solve early the problem that these garbage would give me later if I would just let it stay as it is, I decided to burn them. All garbage found around the foot of the tree must be burned to keep my immediate surroundings clean! I know it is unhealthy to burn garbage but what can I do? The garbage collection is slow as the University Garbage Collection System is saddled with garbage from others, as we from BQ 2 and 3 are saddled by garbage generated by other individuals not living with us. Yesterday, as I was cleaning the surroundings of our dumping tree (area), I saw a green car (a small van) dumping sacks and sacks of garbage at the garbage collection point between BQ1 and the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Several minutes after, another red pick up, dumped a load of garbage at the same collection point. That green car was already slowing down when it passed the area where I was cleaning. Maybe the driver was already thinking where to leave the unwanted baggage he was carrying. He could not dumped it at our area with me around... But this morning, another individual was successful in leaving his unwanted garbage at our area. I am of course wondering how far would this practice go. The behavior of the community is making MSU the biggest dumping site. MSU is beautiful but it is the community making it ugly too.
