I woke up this morning and decided to write a poem per say...Its Veterans Day and the hubs is a Marine vet. He will always be a marine and is proud to have served. I will never fully comprehend what he went through (and may still go through at times). But with that said, I wrote this and dedicate it to the the valor of all soldiers, past and present. Thank you can never fully express my appreciation for what all of you do on a daily basis. What Do You Fight For Soldier? Every day you are away, is a day you should have stayed Instead, you are out there....Knowing you may not come back What do you fight for soldier? You understand that you are in a place, most likely, not wanted by others. Regardless, you defend, protect and uphold an ideal. What do you fight for soldier? You try to go back to the old days before you went away but, at times, can be even harder to breath or walk. No one can fully grasp what you have been through... unless, that person went through it too. What do you fight for soldier? You are not the only one that sacrifices but your family does too. Missed birthdays, recitals, milestones...you can never get back. The many freedoms everyone else has on a daily basis, you do not have all the time. So tell me, help me understand, why do you do it soldier? ......Soldier stands and speaks with the many voices of past and present veterans, both as man and woman, as father, mother, son, daughter, grandchild and as a citizen...... I do what I need to not just for me, my family, friends...But for my neighbors, strangers, the ones who cant stand up for themselves, the ones who cry for help, the ones that need our help. I struggle overseas but I can struggle in my own country too. I fight knowing I may not come out of it alive. That I can ultimately leave everything I love have behind one day. I may not always love what I have to do but I know what comes out of my sacrifices. I hope that one day my family fully understands but for now I am grateful for their love and support. I can never go back to living a normal life because I am a soldier. I would not have it any other way. I am a fighter who believes in a cause. Thats enough reason for me to do what I do
