I woke up this morning thinking about a conversation I had Sunday - TopicsExpress

I woke up this morning thinking about a conversation I had Sunday with my family, after a great sermon by Pastor Paul regarding Advent, specifically the love song in Song of Solomon. And this song has been my favorite Christmas song of all, because while it was written in the 12th century, I imagine that the Hebrew people, searching the skies for the Messiah had more than a few laments like this one. But I encountered something this morning listening to it that I felt the Lord wanted me to share this morning. This song reveals an aspect of Gods nature that is often overlooked by those inside and outside the church...the nurturing Spirit of God. A brother in my church family and I were discussing recently the idea that sometimes God has to allow pain in our lives in order to grow and be useful to the Kingdom. What parent would watch their children suffer and hurt, knowing that the pain was necessary, and not want to console them and help them endure? I recall when my son had neonatal meningitis, the excruciating pain I felt myself when he had to receive a spinal tap. Which brings me back to the nature of God in this song. Each verse begins with a child pleading with their Father to take the pain away, to somehow make the hurting stop. And each chorus is a response from the Father saying, It will be over soon, Ill make it better. Today, brothers and sisters remember, Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel has ransomed captive Israel! Gods blessings to each and every one of you, every day...not just in Advent. youtu.be/zzW_PmW-LzE
