I woke up this morning with question marks about the leaders our people have selected in yesterdays elections...did we make the right choices? Did we select the best candidates? The Veto Override lost with an overwhelming NO and isnt it mainly because of our lack of faith in the quality of leaders we have in the Fono and Government? (guessing from discussions and debate in the media and forums) To each his/her answer. So now that we have spoken and made OUR CHOICES (peoples votes) are we assured of transparency and integrity? I dont know...the answer is different for each person but my point is (I do have a point by the way...lol) We selected these leaders by democratic process and although the majority wins in this case...those who lost as candiates and supporters must now decide the path of support for those they didnt vote for or support...thats the key to democracy and accountability for these leaders WE THE PEOPLE selected. They NEED our SUPPORT to do what they PROMISED and are now OBLIGATED to do...SERVE OUR PEOPLE WITH HONOR! What we need in these times of economic hardship is leaders with VISION and SUPPORTERS with FAITH!! As I heard one politician say in his speech for Congress.. The ONLY thing WORSE than being BLIND is having SIGHT and NO VISION!! Congratulations to our new leaders...o outou mama lena! Congratulations to the leaders who have stepped down and those who fought a good fight...e toe timata le upega! Congratulations to the first woman delegate to Congress from American Samoa...the fight and perserverance has paid off...Rise to the Challenge and may God be your light in this journey to represent our people!! Last but not least...I offer my highest praise and thanks to Eni Faleomavaega Hunkin for his awesome years or service...may God give you strength and healing...malo le finau, malo le tautua! GOD BLESS OUR NEW LEADERS...GOD BLESS AMERICAN SAMOA!
