I won a small victory for cyclists today!!! I was ready to spit nails after a police officer pulled me over in the parking lot of Aspen Hill Shopping Center and told me that I wasnt allowed to ride my bike anywhere on the property and that I had to walk it. I argued with him that it it was my vehicle by state and national law, but he said it was for safetys sake and on private property, so they could make any rules they want. He didnt cite me, but he ruined an otherwise great day. I emailed my bike association (WABA) as soon as I got home and then went to work finding the management office online. Not as hard as I thought it would be, so I called them and left a voice mail. Just over an hour later, I got a call back. It had been mistake. I was right! The cop was wrong. Its just no bikes allowed on the sidewalk areas. She apologized for the inconvenience and assured me that the police officers would be quickly informed of the correct policy. Just think how many innocent cyclists I saved from being harassed. :-) Happy Ending!
