I wonder how parents would feel if they knew where funding for Learning Assistance goes in some districts. This goes to class composition and school composition. Since there is no $ for L.A. Teachers in certain districts and schools, principals have Learning Assistance tacked onto their roles...so a chunk of their salaries comes from those coffers. But most are not L.A. trained. And kids do NOT get any L.A. support. The principal fills out paper on them 3x a year and holds meetings with the teacher, to get this info. The principal, (being paid as L.A.) actually does nothing with the student(s). Some principals, although few, are L.A. trained but STILL dont work with kids. Reason? No time. Busy with admin. duties. SO, if we had L.A. teachers back in those schools and districts, students would be getting real help. As it stands, the funding is actually going to pay part of a principals wage.
