I wonder if anybody has any stats on where lost dogs are found, especially in the mountains/fells - e.g. near to where they last knew their owner was. Seems Japser was a clever boy and just waited for Adam to return. Our Hamish ran off above Stonethwaite, we thought we heard barking down the valley (thought he must have gotten thru fences/gates), so about 15 min later went down to the valley floor, it was just farm dogs hearing us shout. So I then hauled ass back up the hillside and found him 30 min later at almost the exact spot where he ran off. It was the distant barking that fooled us, I kick myself for leaving the spot. No phone coverage area either so it would have been harder to split up.
