I wondered if someone would be kind enough to answer a query - TopicsExpress

I wondered if someone would be kind enough to answer a query regarding turnout in a sidesaddle riding class. I am originally from England where rules on turnout for all equitation classes were very strict, and I have continued to ride according the English rules over here in Queensland. Side saddle riding does not seem to have much of a following here and I am not too sure that judges know what they should be looking at but I am seeking some guidance on acceptable turnout here in Australia. At Toowoomba Royal Show this week a competitor riding in a bridle with a crystal sparkly browband, a schooling whip of around 120cm, a “period costume type” habit with an apron so short it showed both the left and the right riding boot, a jacket with no cut away front and brass buttons over the rear (single) vent and no waistcoat was placed first in the rider class. She rode well and her horse went nicely but her turnout was incorrect (to my English showing eyes!) My query is, does it matter what you and your horse wear if it is a riding class because turnout is not considered, only the horse’s way of going and one’s riding ability?
