Cyclones worse for Reef than dredging, says Greg Hunt CYCLONES will cause more damage to the Great Barrier Reef than dredging for the coal port at Abbot Point in north Queensland, says federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt. Mr Hunt dismissed concerns the Abbot Point dredging would damage the reef, saying it “doesn’t impact on the reef at all”. Almost 50 per cent of damage to the reef in the past two decades had come from cyclones, he said.
