I wont say going to church is totally irrelevant. For many believers, it helps them balance psychologically and emotionally from the stress of the week. The dancing, singing and general excitment is good for the body/mind. A good exercise of body/mind cannot be bad. Again, the community of fellowship which bonds the congregation as one atleast in those few hours of worship cannot possibly be bad. Then, many will forget their anxieties, fears, depressions and pains for the duration of the service. Another major role is that prayers or speaking in tongues sustains the hope that God will answer someday! People will come out, give testimonies and you will hope and believe that one day will be your turn. Afterall, miracles do happen. You can see beneficiaries before you. Prayer, good measure of hope and faith is not wrong or bad either. However, it starts getting quite complicated when it comes to scriptural readings and the dogmatic intepretations! Some stories, legends or myths will be read as historical truths. What was written in a certain book and the peculiar intepretation of the pastor is declared as irrefutable words of God. You are not expected to rationalize these words or even dare doubt them. You are to believe by compulsion and it is declared as faith to you. Now, the morals underlined in the sermon is teaching basic moralities and ethics. Do not steal, kill, lie, etc.... The difference now is that it is from the only book that issued forth from God to true believers. However, in the midst of the dancing, singing, sermon, preaching, there is one common factor, the only begotten son of God. Everything is built around him, infact you may be pious and clean as the snow but without accepting the divine sonship of this man, you are forever condenmed to hell fire, now it starts getting scary. You shut your mind from blasphemy. You are reminded, God is a jealousy spirit that kills, maims. You are subdued now, ready for tithing/offering appeasement to this God. Hmm
