I work as a District Nurse in OC. I graduated last May and found the New Grad programs nearly impossible. I have over 15 yrs experience working with children and never even got an interview. I was lucky enough to intern with a school during community health and fell in love with school nursing. Its a lot more complex than one would think (its not band aids and ice packs!). You have five years from hire date to obtain your School Nurse Credential and you have to have a BSN. The hours are great (8-230 and summers off) and the pay is equal or better than hospital jobs, plus you move up the pay scale faster. If you love working with kids, look into it on edjoin. There is a huge shortage of school nurses and most districts are struggling to fill positions. As of right now, I know Orange and Long Beach have about 10 open positions between the two open for next school year. Look into it! I cant imagine being anywhere else!
