I worked at the Bemis Mill for 5 years before it became Tennessee Textiles in the spinning department on the 4th floor. My job title was Filling Doffer. I worked with some great people such as Joe Billy Austin (superintendent whom I can thank for hiring me), Jerry Bragg (my supervisor), & Terry Bragg who both trained me. I worked 3rd shift and it was very fast paced in order to meet production!! If you worked here, you know exactly what I am talking about. I can remember meeting production early and getting to leave by 5:30 am many days, I really thought I was doing something back then and I was. I remember every floor and all the departments. So many families have worked here and there is so much history. I feel like it would be a shame to tear this down with all the memories behind this historical landmark. I applaud everyone who is speaking out to attempt to save this piece of history!!!
