The voting entitlements should be in proportion to their compulsory levy contribution. There is overwhelming support for radical democratic change and this can easily be seen in the submissions to the current Senate Inquiry into beef cattle transaction levies. It has been demonstrated that corruption of MLA voting registers is probable, actual levy payers are not identified, and as a result insignificant levy payer benefits are achieved, representation and accountability is poor; while cattle producer profitability is at an all time low irrespective of marketing levies. We believe that it is time for radical change to the agricultural levy system and believe Senator Leyonhjelm’s reform is a first step.
