I would be remiss if I didnt acknowledge that The Killer Jerry Lee Lewis had a new album called Rock and Roll Time released this week. The album stands up well, the producers decided to dim the focus on egregious celebrity guest appearances (there are celebrities on the album, but they are not meant to share the spotlight) and instead placed the focus deliberately where it belongs, with the Ferriday Fireball. The Killer is in fine voice and the material, although familiar, is very fresh. Their can never be enough Jerry Lee Lewis covers of Chuck Berry, but on Rock N Roll Time it is the Kris Kristofferson songs that steal the album. The song Rock N Roll Time sounds like it could have fit neatly onto an early 70s Stones record but only with the Lewis delivering the song with an un-ironic zeal. The best song (another written by Kristofferson) is Here Comes the Rainbow Again which one of rocks great song stylists makes his own. With the holidays approaching, there will be several articles reading last rites to the music industry since it has been a poor year sales wise.
