I would just like to update everyone one on the shelter dog that I adopted at the end of August. 5 months ago, when I brought her home she was frightened of every thing. She would go into my bedroom and would NOT come out except to go do her business outside. Once outside, it was difficult to get her back inside. You guys told me to be patient, give her time and space. To ignore her and let her come to me. Well, I took your advise and am so happy I listened. Shes still a frightened little girl but she is doing so well, I just had to share this. About 2 weeks ago, we had to put our old girl down, she was 13. We were heartbroken as she had been with us since she had been 4 weeks old when someone abandoned her. My girl Athena loved her and when she would see her she would wag her tail. She followed her everywhere. When we had to put her down, Athena digressed. I was so sad for her too. She was grieving. Well, about 2 days ago, we visited the local shelter and my granddaughter fell in love with a little pom mix, Teddy. We brought him home. Athena was so happy that she now actually comes to the door on her own and has even joined us in the living room. We havent pushed her at all. My son and his wife and child live with me and they do not get to pet her because she is still afraid of them. So for her to come out and be a little social is so exciting for us all. I know this doesnt sound like a big accomplishment but for this girl, it is. I do have to say she has learned to trust me. There are a few things Im still working on with her. But Im so excited about her progress. Thanks for listening and sorry for it being so long.
