I would like to Thank Graeme Clark for taking minutes of the meeting Turgutreis Expatriate Residents Group - Web Presence: Facebook Turgutreis Expats Group Minutes of the meeting of Thursday 8th January 2015, held at Marcos, Turgutreis (added information/clarifications by Members/Mayor indicated by - -> symbol) Present: Zafer Iseren (Chair), Binnur Koklu, Shirley Jones, Pamela Linfoot, Wally Newman( has given his excuse not to be able to complete the meeting because he had another meeting), Graeme Clark; apologies from Sheila Gomez (total membership now 25) General Business 1 Meeting with Bodrum Mayor The Chairman and a few Members visited the Bodrum Mayor and offered our New Years Greetings. This was followed by a summary the issues identified by the Group (refer to minutes of 22 October 2014); specific responses: - Beachfront; particularly derilect hotels - need demolishing - -> Illegal buildings in general to to be demolished - -> No new building permits until previous Planning Rules are audited - -> Audited rules to to become the New Planning Rules for Bodrum Penninsula - -> Legal status of Municipality versus the Bodrum City Council (has no funding/budget) to be decided by case currently before the Courts; current status is somewhat of a standoff - Transport; new Municiplity buses; route improvements - -> BCC has no control over new buses or routes) - -> Letter to be sent to Mugla by Chairman - Stray dogs and cats; auto-feeding machines - Charity fundraising; money raised by Group - -> needs to be formalised 2 Beachfront; restaurant area One Member had been advised by some of the restauranteurs that their beachfront areas would be substantially affected by a proposed extension of the Sevket Sabanci foreshore pathway through to the D-Marin Marina 3 New Member The Chairman welcomed Graeme Clark and invited his input; response was in support of the previously identified issues with these variations and queries: - Future Turgutreis; Group could envisage what they saw the area to be like in say, 5 years time - -> Chairman invited input from all Group members - Public Address System; preference for web advice system - -> Public websites not currently suitable to do this - -> Notary is to take control of existing System; when in place, appropriate announcements e.g. Storms etc. will be also issued in English (planned electricity outages are published on the Aydin Electricity website) - Turgutreis Sewerage System Upgrade to EU Standards; to approriately process sewage before sea discharge; was slated for completion by 2016 - -> Another Working Group is covering this - -> No Municipality plan in place - -> Industrial Area; system to collect and filter greywater before release into sea to be installed soon - Stray/roaming free dogs - - seen as a significant issue; safety of all from dog attacks; tourism/tourists negatively affected; public health issue with faeces fouling beaches which can lead to beach users being infected with E. Coli (an issue to be removed for a beach to hold a Blue Flag rating; Turgutreis currently has a Blue Flag rating); animal welfare - many dogs underfed/starving and do not appear to have owner to care for or control them 4 Mayors Festive Season Cocktail Party - Some Members had gone by Council bus after invitation by SMS; Annual tradition - -> Group was not notified; Chairman to follow up to ensure all notified for this years event 5 Formalising Expatriates Group Chairman suggested that Group consider enhancing its future effectiveness by registering as an Association (minimum 7 people) Meeting closed at 1800 hours (WalterN left mid-meeting) END
