I would like to attempt to dissolve a myth that has been perpetrated on people for many decades. And that is that diamonds are a rare and valuable gem. Really?...REALLY?! If you believe that is the case then perhaps you should do a little research. How many married women are there in the U.S. alone and how many of those women wear diamonds? For arguments sake lets use a low number and say 10% of the population...that would be about 31 million diamonds (and that is assuming that they only own 1 diamond each). Now in addition to this lets add the number of movie, music, sports or otherwise famous people that have large diamond earrings, rings, necklaces, etc. Again, lets use a conservative number and say 1% so that would be another 3 million diamonds (at least). So at this point we have discovered that there are reasonably believed to be (at least) 34 million diamonds on the necks, ears, fingers and wrists of married or famous people in the U.S. alone. Now, how many times have you been I to a jewelry store and been told that theyre out of diamonds? Never. In fact that is almost exclusively what most jewelry pieces features...and many of those have surrounds made of smaller rounds or baguettes- which are also diamonds. Not only jewelry stores, but you can buy diamonds in almost every pawn shop in the country, out of newspapers, magazines and online from many different venders. Have you ever been to a dentist? All of their drill bits are diamond tipped...shoot you can buy diamond tipped cutting blades for a variety of saw blades at any local hardware store! ...Diamonds are rare?! Hardly. But it isnt what is fact- and facts say that every single day new diamonds are unearthed and either polished for jewelry or crushed for use in computers or tools or any other use they can think of. No, its simply what they can sell to a public that is searching for something unique. So next time you want to express your appreciation or love for somebody dont get a diamond because diamonds dont say youre one in a million it says youre one OF millions. And dont even get me onto how rare gold is... lol.
