I would like to clarify my position on fiscal responsibility and my position on the respectful treatment of employees. It has come to my attention that there may be some confusion on my stance. It is, always has been, and always will be my position that we must be fiscally responsible with the money in which the public has entrusted us. We must be good stewards of that money and do our best to minimize the burden on the tax payers. I believe that the government should be left in the control of the local officials. I am also a firm believer in the constitution. It has given all of us rights and as an elected official I will do everything in my power to protect those rights. I have shown my fiscal responsibility during my time on the Waupun Common Council. During my time with the council, we did not raise taxes, but instead we laid the ground work for economic development to increase the tax base and creating an alternate source of revenue for the City of Waupun rather than creating a burden for the tax payers. I also believe that everyone, which includes both the public and the employees, has the right to be treated with respect and dignity. I will always do my best to “Do the Right Thing, the Right Way, for the Right Reasons”. This has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility. It has everything to do with being a good leader and human being. We all do, or at some point have, worked for someone. We should understand that all should have the right to work in a low stress environment and should have the opportunity to enjoy the work which they do. When I say that I will stand up for the employees, it does not mean that I will buy their happiness. It means that I will treat them with respect, dignity, and be equitable in my decision making processes. I will also be honest with them and the public in saying that I will create a fiscally responsible environment in which everyone can earn an equitable and fair wage to support their families. Under my leadership, we will do our best to eliminate an “us vs. them” environment. We will work together to accomplish the goals of public safety. I have always been proud to be a Republican and a fiscal conservative. I am also proud to be a Christian and I still believe in the “Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. That is what I will be as your next Sheriff.
