I would like to clear up some common misconceptions about Amendment 1 also known as the Farming Rights Amendment that will be on TOMORROW’s ballot. 1. The main reason this amendment is in place is to serve as a preventive measure to keep special interests groups (mainly HSUS- Humane Society of the United States) from using outside funds to come into our state and tell us how we can raise our livestock and grow our crops. If you remember back in 2010, we voted on Proposition B also known as the “Puppy Mill Bill.” This limited the number of dogs dog breeders could own and raise to 50. Why is this a problem you might ask if you raise let’s say cattle, hogs, sheep, or chickens? They started with dogs, however, had the end goal of ending ALL animal agriculture! Their Dir. Of Animal Cruelty once said, “My goal is the abolition of all animal agriculture”. Their CEO Wayne Pacelle has said, “If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would”. They are deceitful liars, who in fact give only .45% (note the decimal) to help cats and dogs. OVER 100 of our 114 state in Missouri voted no on this bill; however it passed with a 51% to 49% vote because of the counties around the Kansas City and St. Louis area. Luckily our lawmakers were able to fix this to ensure Missouri’s livestock producers could continue doing what they are so good at. Stay tuned for more.
