I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all people who have intensely supported us against the Tis Hazari Court lawyers who molested a NE girl on 22nd may 2014 and Assaulted NE leaders on 23rd may 2014 . A girl from Nagaland was harassed, molested and assaulted outside the metro station, in this relation an FIR was filed and the case was heard in the Court, the next day. The victim was assisted by me (President, Naga Students Union, and Delhi) and two of my executives. Since the accused was a Lawyer of that particular court the situation was not very pleasant in the court room. We were taunted and targeted because we helped the victim. We were assaulted and chased around inside the court premises so we had to take shelter in the Judge Chamber to escape from the attack. Meanwhile, the other Naga student leaders were waiting for us outside the court premises and one of them (Rachubui, President of Zeliangrong students union, Delhi ) was brutally attacked by the aggressive mob of 30-40 lawyers. He sustained serious injury on his head, face and was severely bleeding. We somehow managed to escape and ran out of the court room for our lives. A lady advocate who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, tried to stop those 40/50 lawyers but instead she was also slapped and was verbally abused. FIR has been filed at Subzi Mandi Police Station. On the same night hundreds of people from Northeast communities came to the Police station to show their solidarity and fight to ensure that justice is given the victim and those barbaric lawyers be punished. On 26th may 2014, we met chief Justice of Delhi High court and a representation/memorandum was submitted. On 27th may 2014 under the Banner Northeast Community in Delhi, a Mass Protest Rally against the Tis Hazari Court lawyers who assaulted NE leaders was organized at Bar Council of India and was attended by around 2000 from different states of NE States and other civil organization from Delhi. The Bar Council of India assured that they will direct the Delhi Bar Council to make careful investigation and take stringent actions against the Offender. The molestation and the criminal intimidation and assault on the people of North East States is an attack having racial contours and calls for strict and immediate action by the judiciary and law enforcing agency to protect the vulnerable group. The conduct of this lawyers and the mob of lawyers supporting him show not only scant regard for the judicial process but also contempt of the Court. Stringent action should be taken so that in future it will not happen again. We are not safe even in the courts. A few delinquent lawyers cannot be permitted to take law into their own hands. So far the BCI, BCD , Delhi police have not done much but we are positive that they will do what they have assured us. We will continue to fight until we get justice.We should unitedly fight together, it is for all of us and for our future, be prepared for any protest or anything if necessary.
