I would like to initiate conversations with you about your - TopicsExpress

I would like to initiate conversations with you about your classroom and out-of-classroom experiences at Missouri State. In my short tenure here, I have learned from many of you that our general effort to ensure that you are satisfied as a student may need a boost, or it may need to be praised. Either way, I would like you to participate in a short-term focus group with other students to help keep thoughts about your Missouri State experience real, and to help us improve where possible. Your presence and input are important and will serve as springboards to various projects and initiatives within my division to improve the experience of all students. Initially, I believe it is important to address the following matters first: 1. What do you believe makes Missouri State unique? 2. How can Missouri State better recruit underrepresented students, with emphasis on African American and Hispanic males? 3. What resources and things make students want to stay at Missouri State? 4. Tell how it’s really been for you as an Missouri State student - “Shattering the Silence” about getting a degree at a predominantly white university, and 5. What has been or where have you found support to make it as far as you have? Of course, there will be other questions. You will be free to talk about as many other things as we have time for. I’m inviting you because I believe you can help us learn about what really matters to students like you. If you come, you may pick the ingredients for the pizza that will be served!! You know we all LOVE pizza :D Just contact Director of Diversity and Inclusion Anthony Rios at [email protected] or message me on Facebook, and bring your appetite to the meeting. We eat FIRST! It is my hope that we can take advantage of this time to get to know each other better, eat some good food, and "get real" about the things you have on your mind. Please join me and other students. These videos will be utilized for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Admissions for the Diversity and Inclusion Outreach Website. We are set to meet on Monday, October 7th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in Plaster Student Union 311 and 312. Please clear your calendar (except for class) if you must so that you may attend and talk with me, Dr. Coopwood, and other students. Barring a welcome, our agenda will be determined when we convene. I’m looking forward to seeing you. Best of luck and wishes!
