I would like to once again remind any of my female Facebook - TopicsExpress

I would like to once again remind any of my female Facebook friends....if you were married for 10 years, you are entitled to HALF of your spouses social security benefit while he is alive, and if he has passed, you are entitled to ALL of his social security benefit. So many divorced and widowed older women do not realize that. You can bet, if this benefit was being overlooked by MEN, the social security system would be shouting from the rooftops, doing public service announcements, etc...the really sad thing.....I have helped several women get the benefit they are entitled to....but two of the four were told by Social Security representatives on the phone that they were NOT entitled. If social security tells you that you do not qualify...tell them you want an appointment to come in anyway and you want to see it in writing. (Now, there are exclusions, if you have remarried before a certain age, etc)...But, if you are old enough for social security and have decided to wait to start collecting....you can collect your half of your spouses and let your benefit wait until you get older and you get a bigger benefit. There are many articles out there on the internet about this...but so many women still dont know. A lady at a local store told me that in her divorce decree, she agreed not to claim any of his social security. THAT IS BULLSHIT !!!....It is an unenforceable clause, no matter what the divorce decree says. Your claiming divorced spouse or divorced surviving spouse cannot be signed away, and it does not affect any benefit that the exs present wife is entitled to. Ladies, know what you are entitled to.
