I would like to say Thank You. To everyone how has ever stopped someone in uniform just to show their respect and appreciation, I want you to know that we appreciate the gesture more than you know. At first (and sometimes still) I dont REALLY know what to say in response and at times even felt a little uncomfortable. I often have random people see me in uniform in various places and they will sort of go out of their way to shake my had and say Thanks for what you do for our country. Few of us think we deserve it and almost none of us want to be recognized as HERO. Nonetheless, everyone loves to know they are appropriated. None have affected me more than the little girl in Chillis. I had just finished a long day and was meeting my family for dinner. As I made my way through the restaurant, across the way, I noticed a little girl and her mother watching me as I walked by. As I made my way back across the restaurant, back to the booth I was sitting in, I once again noticed from the corner of my eye that I still had the attention of the young lady and her mother. The girl was 3 years old (at most). She met met me on the opposite end of the booths so I stopped to see what she wanted. She walked up to me and grabbed a hold of my leg so I knelt to be eye level with her. As I looked into her little face she gave me a hug and told me, Thank you for protecting me and our country. Struggling to swallow the lump in my throat, I answered You are very welcome and Thank you for being so sweet. Holding my composure I stood up and grabbed her hand to walk her back to her mom whos tears were swelling too from the pride. I congratulated her and thanked her for the way she was raising her daughter. I dont know who I personally do this job for but I will continue as long as I know how appreciative our people are. Thanks little lady
