I would like to share one of my many Obamacare stories with you. About a year ago a guy called me regarding his concerns with his health insurance. Both him and his wife deal with pre-existing conditions and his current policy wasnt major medical. They werent eligible for private major medical insurance due to health conditions. They needed better coverage than they currently had and their current policy was very expensive. Sounds like a problem right? Well surprisingly enough you would be wrong. There were programs for individuals and families like this. It was the State and Federal high risk pools, every state has it. To qualify you cant have creditable coverage (major medical) and you have to be declined for creditable coverage within 12 months. I told the guy lets apply and get declined and were home free then he told me already done. I gave the man the phone number to call and he enrolled with no problems. He was receiving much better coverage(MAJOR MEDICAL!) and his premium was much lower than his old coverage that wasnt meeting his needs! He was SO THANKFUL for me helping him even though I really didnt do too much other than tell him about the program and give him a phone number. Today this gentleman called me and told me he received a letter from the insurance company that read due to Health Care Reform this program will no longer exist, and as of January 1, 2014 he will be uninsured. He is being forced into a broken marketplace with higher premiums and higher deductibles. The man informed me that he would NOT pay three times the premium for a 1/3 less of the coverage with a higher deductible, just couldnt afford to. The last thing he told me was he prayed that they dont ever get sick again because they will be going without coverage unless they are eligible for a HUGE tax subsidy(not gonna happen). The point is this, there were programs for uninsured individuals with pre-existing conditions that worked and was affordable! If you ever thought the ACA was drawn up for people with pre x....think again! Pretty sad.
