I would like to speak of this old video ... I discovered Yuja Wang on the CD where she performed this sonata. When was recorded the video? The version that I share was placed on Youtube in 2012 ... I know that I will receive perhaps not much like, by presenting the funeral march and the fourth movement (on the same video), but I find that what Yuja Wang is did in that interpretationreally interesting and original !!! I must explain. This movement is built in three parts: the funeral march with a great crescendo until the second part, which is a magic song, sometimes called song of the angels. Then the funeral march comes again and conducts to the conclusion. In this repetition of the funeral march, Chopin askeds to begin again piano and to redo a huge crescendo. In his time, Rachmaninov has choosen the opposite option, which is to restart fortissimo and make a huge decrescendo, which pleasantly symmetrizes the funeral march ... Krystian Zimmermann plays the same way, and he told me on day that all slave pianists play this funeral march as well !!! ... Yuja Wang, made a different choice, which is quite awesome too !!! She begins the repetition of the funeral marsh pianissimo, but remains pianissimo very long, however playing the bass one octave below what Chopin wrote ... And that gives this passage a ghostly appearance and incredibly disturbing ... it is absolutely beautiful !!!!! !! In the last movement, this race beyond the world of the living, she plays a very sober way, without these effects that are tempting so many other pianists, but highlighting a few notes here and there, which make this partition sounding like a ghostly haunting modernity !!! ....... this is more than beautiful, it is amazing !!!!!!!!!!!! https://youtube/watch?v=82zlRHU_Jfw
