I would like to tell you about me and my dads Sparks. Before I do - TopicsExpress

I would like to tell you about me and my dads Sparks. Before I do i want to thank you Dave for sharing your heart and giving me the advice to help my dad. You see my father is 72 and had a massive stroke and the doctors said he might not get back to where he was in life before the stroke. I have to say they were wrong and the biggest thing to helped him regain what he lost was doing Sparks. The left side of my dad was not working and for that reason when we went out, he had to be in a wheelchair. He complained a lot at first, but when we Started to spark people, and he could see the joy in her face, being in a wheelchair really did not bother him. We started out doing 1 Spark a day for the first four weeks after he got out of the hospital. I noticed after the first three days of doing sparks, that when I came to pick him up he was excited and full of life. Fast-forward to week five of my father and Is sparking adventures. When I picked him up he informed me that we were not going to do just 1 spark today, we were going to do at least five he said. So we started out to get our spark on, and went to our favorite place to have breakfast. My dad said to me lets look around to see who were going to spark today. He looked over the corner and saw a man about his age, with this head leaned forward and a sad look on his face. My father called the waitress over and through his broken speech because of his stroke, he told her that he would like to buy that mans breakfast. He went on to tell the waitress that I would like you to give the man this one spark card. He tried to explain to her that he did not want the man to know that it was him buying his breakfast I dont think she git that concept because she walked right over and handed the man the one spark card, and then pointed right at my father. When the man got up to leave he walked over to my father and said why would you do something like that, my fathers response was because its helping me get better after my stroke and to make others feel great. The man asked my father what do you mean when you say its helping you get over your stroke? My father and I explained how bad he was after the stroke, and how going out and giving to others has help my father regain a lot of his mobility. The man told my father about his wife who had recently had a stroke and was not doing well at all. My father immediately looked at the man and said do you guys want to have a spark date tomorrow, and we will spark this town like nobodys ever sparked it before. The man hesitated at first, and then my father said what you have the lose buddy? We made arrangements of where we were going to meet the following morning to have breakfast, and when we pulled in the parking lot the man and his wife were rolling up to the door. I got my father out and put him in a wheelchair and started pushing to the front door. My father introduced himself to the mans wife, and she could barely speak but yet she gave my father a smile that warmed both his heart and mine. All four of us at the restaurant thinking about who we were going to spark. One by one we all started to point to this person and that person, and before we knew it we had picked almost everyone in the restaurant the spark. Helen continue to smile and you could see her face start to light up as we handed the one spark card to the waitress and told her to bring us back the bills. One by one people came over and thanked us for buying their breakfast. Helen had not spoken in almost 3 1/2 months and she had a stroke. The young mother and a boy about six years old walked over the little boy grabbed her hand and thanked her, and said this was the greatest day of his life because his mommy really didnt have the money to buy breakfast. As I looked up there was a tear running down Helens face, and then the unthinkable happened, Helen told the little boy youre welcome, and I love you sweetheart. All four of us began to cry, Im a little boy thought he had done something wrong. His mother had to explain to him that Helen had not been up to speak because of a stroke and then explain what a stroke was. The little boy told Helen, me and my mom love you so much for buying our breakfast. The little boy gave Helen a hug so hard that I thought he was going to yank her out of the chair. It is been two years since this encounter at the restaurant with Helen my father and the little boy. There no longer four of us to go out to spark, there are six of us. Helen and my father are doing great they no longer need a wheelchair, to get around. We are an awesome one spark team, and as my father says we are always ready to sling sparks wherever we can. Dave again thank you very much for starting this awesome organization that is changed not only my father, its changed five other people to the core of our hearts. We get together on a weekly basis to spark it up and read all the sparks that are posted on this page. If youre not sending your sparks in your robbing somebody of the healing power that that spark possesses. I know as I spoke to Dave today he was telling me about how he was in desperate need of people to send in their sparks. Dave we love you and we are on your team.
