I would like to use the remaining 10 days of the crowd funding campaign to introduce the talents behind the East Jerusalem West Jerusalem album & movie. First off - my friend Steve Earle who produced the album: My relationship with Steve came via his manager, Danny Goldberg. I was working on the Townes Van Zandt album and Danny was managing me at the time. Steve Earle was just about ready to release his own Townes album . A few years later I was telling Danny about my plan to record an album in East Jerusalem. Dannys immediate reaction was you should invite Steve Earle to come and he can help produce the album. So I gave it a quick thought and called him. I was sure hed look for polite excuses not to come. It is after all the controversial Middle East conflict . However, I didnt have to say much and Steve accepted the invitation and we started planning the production. This was to be Steves first visit to the region, and he had written the song Jerusalem. So it was right for him to come. He landed in the Tel Aviv airport and driven right away to the studio. For eight days and eight nights we recorded the album and made a documentary. The atmosphere in the studio was creatively intense and full of positive energy. On the last day, as we wrapped up the recording ,Steve picked up his guitar and sat down to sing for me some of his newest songs as well as some of the older repertoire . It was magical. Before long, the studio filled up with an audience and for the next hour and a half he played us a full concert! This was the finale stage one. Nowadays I am working on the movie release and the album marketing. I wish to thank Steve for being a wonderful friend and partner.
