I would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to the wonderful American folk singer, songwriter, musician, and activist Joan Baez, who was born on Staten Island, New York, on this day back in 1941. Joan Baez has performed publicly for over 55 years, releasing over 30 albums. Fluent in Spanish as well as in English, she has also recorded songs in at least six other languages. Although she is largely regarded as a folk singer, her music has diversified since the counterculture days of the 1960s and now encompasses everything from folk rock and pop to country and gospel music. As well as writing her own songs, Joan Baez is known for her great interpretation of other peoples work, having recorded songs by The Allman Brothers Band, The Beatles, Jackson Browne, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Violeta Parra, Woody Guthrie, The Rolling Stones, Pete Seeger, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and many others. Here she is with her beautiful rendition of the Bob Dylan song Farewell Angelina, the title track from her 1965 album. I hope that you enjoy it.
