I would love to know your thoughts about Egyptian President Abdel - TopicsExpress

I would love to know your thoughts about Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who caught my attention because he showed up earlier this week in Paris. While large, American news organizations (including CNN, The Huffington Post and USA Today) summarized his clear and direct Dec. 28 speech to many of Egypts top leaders at Al-Azhar University, the worlds most prominent training ground for Islamic scholars, they did not actually link to video of that speech. If you havent seen it, I think you should (the link below has subtitles). Something to note about el-Sisi: he is the former Egyptian Army general whose presidency is the result of a military coup. In other words, this is the guy put in power by the Egyptian military, which stood against former President Mohammed Morsi, who was popularly elected, backed by the United States and a top member of the Muslim Brotherhood. A refresher of news reports will show that Morsi was taking the country down the road of Sharia law -- essentially a bait-and-switch that prompted the Egyptian military to give him notice that his policies were inconsistent with the wishes of the Egyptian people. So, just curious. What do you make of this man and his speech?
