I would propose to allow inmates the right to vote. Elections - TopicsExpress

I would propose to allow inmates the right to vote. Elections directly affect these inmates, such as prison system funding, and legal statutes. I believe these inmates have a right to have a voice in a government that controls their everyday activities. Until the day that they die, I believe that they are a part of our society and the decisions that we make in our society can directly affect these inmates as well. Considering the fact that many inmates’ cases are eventually overturned, this further reinforces the philosophy that these inmates are still a part of our community; these inmates are just a part of our internal community, which is the prison system, where many times basic constitutional rights are stripped away. Let’s not continue to deprive these inmates of this basic right. I would propose to implement a system in which felons and others incarcerated could work a full time job, and gain some rights in the outside world. These individuals would be allowed to earn income, so when they are released from the system they do not find themselves in the same disparity that could have possible lead them to ending up in prison. I would propose to create a very intricate community within having the reinforcement of good behavior be a negative reinforcement from being cut off from the outside community. These individuals, as we have the system set up currently, are just lost souls wasting away. We need to maintain these individuals mental, and physical, status. Allowing these individuals to work would maintain their physical status, paying these individuals, and creating hope of a better life once released would upkeep their mental mind state. We must change our prison system cause it is simple inhuman the way we currently operate the system. We must not have the goal of unbearable punishment; rather we need the mindset up rehabilitating these individuals.
