I would really like for us to stop perpetuating the idea that black people have a special dislike for agricultural work because of the collective traumatic memory of slavery. The fact of the matter is that most blacks after slavery--and some even today--were very angry that they didnt get their 40 acres and a mule! Many blacks were forced to become sharecroppers after slavery, and cheated of their wages. Many black farmers had their lands stolen from them under threat by the KKK, or fraudulent loan practices by the US Government. The truth is that Africans were brought to this country because of their skill in working with the land, and that love for the land persisted after slavery. When we teach permaculture--and especially when we teach to POC--we need to teach this history. We need to show that the roots are already there to encourage people to bloom! https://youtube/watch?v=3mF718GsrOI
