CaughtOffside understands that Man Uniteds American owners are ready to bite the bullet and will sack Moyes in the coming weeks with the Scots only hope of retaining the position in charge of the club being an unlikely win over all conquering Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. Moyes bought himself some time with Man Uniteds 3-0 victory over Olympiakos but the result has been seen by many as merely papering over the cracks and the clubs senior players are said to have given up on the Scot and there is a sense within Old Trafford that its only a matter of time before the former Everton managers time in charge comes to an imminent end. Recent thrashings at the hands of arch rivals Liverpool and Man City may well act as the final nail in David Moyess managerial coffin and the Glazers are ready to call time on his brief reign as Man United manager. The Glazers will approach Sir Alex Ferguson in the hope they can persuade the veteran manager to return to the helm on a short term deal that would run for the remainder of the current season as well as next term, with a view to him ushering in a new era. They would look to team Ferguson with Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville as assistants with the pair then taking over in the long term, though its not immediately clear who would fill the role as manager and who would better suit an assistant position. Though in recent weeks Man Uniteds home support had rallied around Moyes the atmosphere at Old Trafford during, and indeed after, the clubs 3-0 defeat to Man City last night was positively poisonous. Stewards were even put in place to prevent the angered removal of the Chosen One banner that refers to the current boss. Moyes has already secured an unwanted record for the club, racking up a Premier League club record breaking total of 10 defeats in a season and consequently all but ending any slight hope of securing a top four finish. David Moyes has looked like a man on the brink for some weeks and the sight of the Man United manager, head in hands, during the shambolic encounter with Man City has led many observers to conclude he is simply not the man to drag the club out of the mess he has himself presided over. The Glazers were well aware of the almost impossible task ahead of them, when they had to plan for a future post-Sir Alex Ferguson and they had initially offered robust support for Moyes with stories fed to the baying media of a massive £200m transfer war-chest that would be handed to the 50 year old manager. The mood around the club, and the boardroom now suggests that offering the funds to Moyes would leave them stuck on a course they now feel they can not pursue, hence the openness to consider the re-appointment of Sir Alex Ferguson, an option the Glazers know will appease the Man United faithful.
